The Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA) was set up in January 2016 (Act no. 11 of 2015) to oversee and promote the development of renewable energy in Mauritius. The Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency was proclaimed to the Government Gazette of Mauritius No. 100 of 3 October 2015.
The Government of Mauritius has set a 35% target of renewable energy electricity production by 2025, up from the current 20% share and MARENA has been implemented to help steer Mauritius towards its goals.
The Agency has thus a clear mandate to deliver on its objectives and accelerate the development and promotion of renewable energy in Mauritius, and help the country achieve its targets and its ambitions towards Sustainable Development Goals.
