Director General of Energy & Geology, Directorate-General of Energy and Geology (DGEG), Portugal
João Correia Bernardo, born in 1965, is currently the General Director of Energy and Geology (DGEG). He is also chairman of the Executive Committee of the Innovation Support Fund (FAI) and chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Action Plan for Energy Efficiency. Since the beginning of the year, he assumed the chair of the Board of Directors of the Biomass Center for Energy (CBE).
He began his career in the energy sector in 1991, at the DGEG, as a forest engineer specialized in the area of biomass, where he held positions, between 2001 and 2018, of Head of Division and Head of Department in the area of renewable energy, energy efficiency, transport and sustainable mobility and innovation.
Among other duties, he chairs the General Assembly Board of the Portuguese Energy Association (APE) and represents the Secretary of State of Energy in the Energy Regulatory Entity (ERSE) Advisory Board. He was a member of the Directors Board of the Energy Agency (ADENE), between 2012 and 2016 and as vice-president between 2005 and 2008.
He is the Portuguese representative on the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA), in Paris.
