Langiwe Hope Lungu
Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Energy Regulation Board, Zambia
Ms. Langiwe Hope Lungu has over 23 years experience in the energy and water sectors, particularly renewable energy and energy economics. She is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Development Studies, a postgraduate qualification in Planning and Analysis of Development Projects with the University of Oslo and an MBA candidate with the Herriot Wart University of Scotland. She is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) in Zambia. Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Ms. Lungu headed the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency section at the Ministry responsible for energy in Zambia.
Ms. Lungu was instrumental in establishing the ERB in 1997 whilst still serving as an energy economist in the Ministry responsible for Energy. She also played a critical role in the development of the first Zambian energy policy in 1994 as well as the revised policy in 2008. She served as a social-economic expert on the team that developed the Rural Electrification Master Plan for Zambia. She has played an instrumental role in highlighting the importance of the relationship between gender and energy in sustainable development in Zambia.
