Sam is CEO and co-founder of PowerGen Renewable Energy, a micro-grid developer, builder, and operator headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to its micro-grid business, PowerGen is also a leading EPC company for non-micro-grid solar projects. PowerGen started in 2011 and now has offices in 4 countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone) and employs over 130 full time professionals.
With over 10,000 connections under management, PowerGen is one of the leading micro-grid companies in Africa. PowerGen was also a key leader in the founding of Africa Mini-grid Developers Association (AMDA), and Sam serves on its board. Sam has been a leading voice for the private utility and micro-grid sector in Africa.
Prior to PowerGen, Sam's work experience included time with UBS Investment Bank, VCharge Energy, and Harvard University's Trustman Fellowship. Sam is a graduate of Harvard's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, where he received a bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Sam is originally from Wilton, Connecticut, USA.
