H.E. Honourable Fafa Sanyang
Minister of Petroleum & Energy, The Gambia
AboutH.E. Honourable Fafa Sanyang has been the Minister for Petroleum and Energy in The Gambia since 2017 and before this was Permanent Secretary for the Ministry for eight years. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from the University of Sierra Leone (1989), a Masters Degree in Marine Management from Dalhousie University, Canada (1998), and a Masters Degree in Engineering Geology from the University of Leeds, UK (2003).
He has also completed a Diploma in Management of Petroleum Development and Operations (2004), a Certificate in International Petroleum Contracts Negotiation (2007) and an International Petroleum Management Certificate (2011).
The Honourable Minister started his career as a Geological Assistant at the Ministry of Local Government and Lands, progressing to become a Senior Geologist there before moving onto being Director at the Department of State for Trade Industry and Employment and then Commissioner for Petroleum Exploration and Production at the Office of The President of The Gambia.
Since joining the Ministry for Petroleum and Energy he has developed the Ministry of Petroleum Strategic Plan 2015 to 2020, developed the Petroleum Products Act 2016, and initiated and coordinated bilateral cooperation agreements with Senegal, Venezuela, Ghana, Morocco, Mauritania, Taiwan.
